With today’s music having such thin lines of distinction between genres, it seems an ideal time for an artist like Akshan to make his mark. The name "Akshan" (phonetic spelling of action in Patois) stems from the personality he embodies; every lyric will tell a story. Akshan, born Nickia Navdia Palmer in the impoverished ghettos of rural St. Mary, Jamaica, has witnessed and been a part of many tragic and inspirational stories in his life. Reflected in his music are happenings that have given him great understanding and insight to life and all its possibilities.

Akshan became seriously focused on a musical career in 1996, influenced by such artists as Spragga Benz, Sizzla Kalonji, and various R&B acts. Between 1996 and 2000, Akshan spent time perfecting his stage presence and lyrical delivery while performing in various establishments indigenous to his surroundings. The one aspect of Akshan’s repertoire that separates him from the everyday Dancehall/Reggae artist is his versatility. Although, when compared to artist in the Hip Hop and R&B genres, one listen will ensure you Akshan di Gal Warria is in a league of his own. With an array of songs that touch the heart, induce self-change, spark body movement, and of course focus on the plight of women in today's society, Akshan is destined to be an artist you will remember.

Akshan’s debut Album entitled “Time Fi Akshan” set to be released In Spring 2005, has a vast composition of musical styles reflective of where Akshan has come from and where he is going. Combining elements of the past with his own unique vision and style, Akshan’s debut is long awaited and much anticipated.
